Automatic Transmission Fluid '97 V70 na

Dear Forum,

the transmission fluid in my '97 V70 na is somewhat over max. As far as I can tell from the indicator stick, readings differ depending on orientation, but it always indicates to much.

It's been like this since 25k km now, since I got the car. I wonder if I should do something about it, planning to change fluid anyways at some point, though.

Transmission works normal, can feel shifts from 1th to 2nd, otherwise smooth.

Opinions?

Hi Caspar, the amount of fluid that drains out of these transmissions is pretty consistent. And considering how old our cars are, I think you certainly couldn't cause any damage by draining it and then refilling it with the correct amount. In fact, your transmission would probably like that. I'd be inclined to do a drain and fill.

You need to follow the procedure to check the level precisely, Caspar. Check your owner manual for the conditions of the check, it is completely different than checking the engine oil.

Off - just saw Robert's video how to do it properly.

Ok, using Robert's instructions from the video (checked with motor running, after 30min drive through town) I read a level close to minimum.

Will do a drain and flush next and refill drained amount.
