This project (my 2000 V70 NA) appears to nearly everything possible broken by the very careless PO. I have so overspent on this car now it is way past funny.
I am trying to find parts that will work that aren't OE Volvo but others may have had success with. So far my experience of aftermarket parts on Volvos is very poor.
Working on the wash/wipe system the PO has broken both headlight wiper motors and arms, the rear washer pump doesn't work, the front washer works but leaks from the pump body, and also the seal of the pump to the washer bottle is also leaking.
I have spares for most of the parts with the exception of the front windshield washer pump motor. FCP have a Meyle pump and an OE. Has anyone got good experience of the Meyle one?

The other part I need to replace is the A/C accumulator. Again, has anyone one used the Visteon version over the Volvo one and had good results?

I am very wary buying aftermarket parts especially after the Pro-Parts Sweden parking brake cables which other 'purchasers' gave a 4-5* rating and were crap.
Any help is appreciated.
Neil.

Alas, these cars are pricey to restore ... The factory washer pumps almost never go bad, how about the junkyard on that item? At least it should last.
I don't have experience with other brands of AC accumulator.

In the never ending chase of cheapness I've always wondered what's in an accumulator. I suspect there is about 28g of silica gel
You could bake it in a warm oven at 250F for an hour or two, add PAG and reuse if your system isn't full of metal and it isn't rusty ? If it is, let's open it up,and learn....

Good ideas, but:
1) There are no P80's in PnP and haven't been since Christmas to pull a pump from.
2) The accumulator is weeping green snot everywhere. When I opened the hood I found it hanging in the engine bay with no mounting bolt on the strap. It is very rusty and porous, so re-using is not an option. FCP have the Volvo one on clearance, so maybe have to do that one. When I checked dealer here the price was about $175 CDN which is about $75 CDN more than FCP currently.
Washer pump from dealer was about $90 CDN v's $70 from FCP so even with shipping cheaper to buy from FCP.
This car has become a restoration on the interior and mechanical side due to so much having been broken by the PO. I have never seen a car this bad even at PnP and fail to understand how I missed it all.
Neil.

I have one from my 1999 which was working well if you want to look it over. It was not too rotted at all.
I really do think there is not much to these things and the desiccant. Im sure I can get this to you cheap via Canadapost from Ontario or Montreal on my next trip and skip customs/duties/etc - let me know.

I bit the bullet and ordered the new OE one. I am sure I have used an aftermarket one on one of my cars in the past and it worked but can't recall what it was. Did use new OE 'O' rings though. It is a job I hate doing as it is awkward to get to to disconnect the old one and re-connect the new one.
I will cut it open and confirm what is in it when I get time.
Thanks for the offer though of the used one, but take the view that if I don't get ti dry the damage it can do, and the cost to then swap it out again and re-gas the system. Would kill any savings. I forgot also FCP gave me a $50 compensation for the hassle of the parking brake cable issue, so that makes the 'cost' ONLY $35 US, so do-able!
Many thanks guys,
Neil.

I remember getting the old one off was nasty. Big wrench like a 21mm to get that union off, and that sucker was stuck on well. The oRing fitting popped off nicely with my gold plated Snap-On AC release toolscot850 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2017, 10:01 I bit the bullet and ordered the new OE one. I have most of the parts to repair the wiper/washer system in my stash, and will re-build the headlight wiper motors and remove the protection thermo-resistors and replace with copper wire. The only part I don't have is the main wiper washer motor and the rubber seal it fits into. These are the only 2 parts that are 'non-optional'. I do like the headlight wipers here in t he winter when the roads get really crappy, and as my cars are usually garaged they are really not an issue unless you let the arms freeze. At that point it takes 2 minutes to disconnect the motors if needed.
If I lived well south of the border I would not bother fixing these. As I pulled the front bumper to make it easier to align the RH fender which has been bent behind the turn signal lens (why I had not noticed it before) it makes swapping the wiper motors easier by just unbolting the 9 bolts holding the slam panel in place. Also makes accessing the wiper washer bottle easy also.
Naturally, having placed the order, I decided to then check PnP and find a 2000 V70XC came in yesterday. Problem is I am still gimpy on my right ankle so tackling our muddy PnP sites is not a good idea, and with the shortage of cars as stated before, they are usually trashed and stripped clean in 24 hours by the PnP gorillas we have here.
Weather is getting better, so may try to take a run down there in the next couple of days to see if anything is available. Hard to tell if the interior is beige or light grey.
