Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 s80 t6 exhaust vvt hub

Post by Cougs80t6 »

First time post, I recently had replaced head gasket, rebuilt head, pcv system, cam seals, coils, and every other gasket along the way. My issue has to do with the timing, specifically the exhaust vvt hub as lost the marks and after putting it back the way i thought it worked i have p0014 advanced position. When I took my head to the shop the acid wash took all my marks on the hub and cam. The hub was moved while the cams stayed locked so that is fine. Ive lined up the intake cam, the 2 notches on the crank pulley with the line/mark on the block can lock through hole behind starter if necessary.

SO, assuming all that is fine, i need to know how I would put the exhaust hub and gear/sprocket with 3 bolts so that when i put my belt on it is no longer throwing the P0014. It starts and idles fine but it does not have as much power as it should when it runs. Ive read all kinds of steps requiring both clockwise and counter clockwise turning of hub, tightening of center bolt and getting gear sprocket bolts all the way to the left and tightening. I have not been able to clear explanations, pictures or videos to make me feel comfortable resetting it again, just need start to finish instructions assuming no marks were made to make it easier to set and that it is going on piece by piece with method.

In the attached photo of the cams/gears and hub the 3 bolts are in the middle of the oval holes on the sprocket. This is different from what I read, from what i understand the bolts should be all the way to the left and tightened. I tried to place it as close to this as possible. hopefully someone can enlighten me or at least point this conversation on a path to success. thank you
