Front cam seals - how far back? VVT hub?

Post by j-dawg »

While replacing valve stem seals, I replaced my front and rear cam seals with the cams off the car. I reinstalled the cams on the car and put the timing stuff back together, but I'm now realizing that I can't see the seal around the exhaust cam (due to the VVT hub) and I really never made any effort to get the cam seals all the way in after I got the top half of the head attached.

Does having the cam sprockets on press the front cam seals far enough in to actually seal, or do I need to pull the sprockets and whack the seals in some more? (Deep in my heart, I know what the answer to this question probably is, and it's not what I want it to be.)
