NA b230 performance upgrades

Post by Volvospeedcar »

Hello from Australia
I have a speedcar (dirt racing) that runs a b230 engine on methanol i was just wondering what ignition upgrades and engine upgrades can be done to get more power. Has to stay NA and under 3.0 litre engine capacity. Thanks in advance.

There's a few options you have. You can put a 16 valve head (I'm assuming it's 8 valve) on their without too much trouble... but finding the head itself can be a little tough. If you want to stay with the 8 valve head, it's possible to find a 2.5L crankshaft (and matching pistons) and increase the displacement a little bit. There's some pretty aggressive cams you can slap in it as well. There's a lot of information and possibilities out there for these engines. I know this might not be the most helpful thing to do on this site, but you can find a LOT of information on the b230 engine over at turbobricks.com

1984-B23F engine fitted to automatic had higher compression ratio. But, I have no idea which engines were shipped to your country, and if carb'ed or EFI back then.
