1998 s70 Radio amplifier Fuse 7

Post by humbertoflores63 »

I have an S70 which I consider a toy car because of the manual trans. Anyway,
I seldom drive it and just disconnected the ground for battery when it sits on the garage. I started to drive it more often and notice that after 3 days, it would not start so something was draining the battery. Using the test light method on the ground side of the battery, the fuse 7 was the only item that was sucking power/ light bulb on.

1. Pull fuse and let car sit for 3 weeks, it starts right up
2. Install fuse and swap radio no change, still drawing current
3. Need to trace wire to see what might be the problem
4. Splice wire and hook up at another location
5. Put an on/off manual switch for power lazy way

Does any one have any other ideas of what can causing the problem or other potential solutions.

Thanks :D

Don't over think this. Check age of battery and have it load tested.

I don't have a copy of the fuse chart here to hand, but what else is on fuse 7? That fuse number sound familiar but can't think why. Is it the one for the glove box light too?

Find out if there is anything else on the circuit as the radio may not be the issue.

The glove box is not on that same fuse 7!

I did a comparison with the 850 and the radio does not pull anything draw Vs the S70.

Fuse legend for 7 just says Radio Amp.

Either spend some time going through the
diagrams looking for what is fed by fuse 7
or go fast and dirty.

Get out a DMM and measure the draw.
Less than 25-35 ma? Get the battery checked.

Higher? Then unplug the radio. Still have draw?
If so, pull fuse 7 and see what doesn't work.
