1997 960 Multilink Rear transverse leaf spring suspension

Post by Scottyv »

I bought this 1997 960 wagon last fall as a nice daily. I did all the timing belts stuff and normal maintenance to catch it up.

The problem is, The transverse Leaf spring snapped at the end point about five inched from its rest on passenger side. looks scored and cleanly snapped
.
Want to buy a heavy duty version, of the spring, But I need to sort out what type of MK2 system I have. There are three part numbers:

#6819300 OES 960 1995–1997 Leaf Spring Multilink Nivomat Vin Reqd Suspension Codes 1
#6819301 for 960 1995–1997 Leaf Spring Multilink Vin Reqd Suspension Codes 2
#9140471 for 960 1995–1997 Leaf Spring Multilink Vin Reqd Suspension Codes S

This the wagon with rear third row seating, So heavy duty is best. Shocks look worn out. PO didn’t seem to take great care, so I don’t know if they set in non Nivos where Novos should be.
But this damage has happened and now having a hard time knowing how to get a new correct transverse spring , Need help on which one to buy? and what shocks to get.

Sorry for the ramble but you get it. any help from other members greatly appreciated.

Used. maybe www.car-part.com

Wilken and Sons. Kensett, IA. 877-344-9773 has the only one listed on car-part.com for the entire Midwest.

LKQ - Fort Wayne, IN has a 1998 S90.

row52.com might help you find a comparable donor vehicle in a local wrecking yard. A lot of 960s and V90s are heading to the bone-yards these days.

Ok thanks,... After looking fast, on the car parts list, most have already been crushed. Its a disposable society we live in. Looks like I’ll be taking it all out and rebuilding the rear suspension. (or junking it my self,) kind of a shame to do that. Part number on the spring is stamped as 9140471

LKQ Pick Your Part in Fort Wayne Indiana is still showing the 1998 S90 in their inventory. Number is 800-962-2277. In this area they remove OE parts and ship to body shops.

S90 would have the lighter duty spring.

Nivomat equipped use one spring wagon or sedan as Nivomats supplement the spring in supporting car. Non-Nivomat is heavier rate spring. Sedan is lighter and uses a softer non-nivo spring with wagons using the heavier version.
