WRONG ABS Module WORKS :D

My 1998 V70 ABS module has been repaired 3 times by me, each time the repair lasts a few weeks. SO i decided to buy a re manufactured one, it arrived and i fitted it and i still have warning lights on??...I also tried another module that i know works but the part number is different, the lights go off however when i press the tracs switch the tracs off light comes on then goes off....is the ABS system working, i wont be testing it until daylight and a gravel road is some distance from me??

Get the codes read and see what the issue is first? It could be a wheel sensor is bad.

Sorry to jack the thread: but you mention another module with different part number turns off ABS light, but leaves TRACS disabled; what is the part number?

The module you have pictured is the same as that on my '98 non-TRACS, FWD.
9140773 6840
10.0946-0400.3 3X2969
but the S# below the barcode is different. Is this the software load?

If a module is found away from a car, how can we identify its application?

I have used my scan tool and there are no codes.should there be a fault code?...

You must drive the car after abs/tracs module has been installed.
That way the control unit will perform self-check test and if everything is ok it will turn off abs/tracs light.

Don't mix modules with different PART numbers.You will fry something if not allready.

Contact matty-moo from this forum for details and instructions.He rebuilds these and knows everything about them.

That "S" you're referring to should be a serial number and it's not relevant at all.
The most important thing is Volvo part number and the number below "Control-unit abs" match the old unit.
Other than that....that it came from a '96-'99 car with abs/tracs.'99 and after are different.

Never seen a single one gone bad on these cars.
It's always abs/tracs module on models from '96-'99.
Older abs units from '91-'95 also rarely fails.

Is your scan tool able to get ABS, SRS, and other level 2 system codes? Most are just good for emission problems.

You will need a special Volvo tool to be able to access other modules in the car.
Standard code reader will have access just to ecu.

The Tracs button always does that with a non-traction module installed. It's normal.

So what I see is this is a 96-98 non-Tracs module, If you want ABS and Tracs to work, you need a different box. (what's Matty Moo's shipping to Oz I wonder?)
