'02 V70 2.4T oil pump o-ring

Post by mouseskowitz »

I was recently told it is a common problem for the o-ring on the oil pump to fail. I just tuned over 200k miles and have a couple of other things that need to be done. So, I'm wondering, is the o-ring replacement something that is done as a preventative thing or wait until there is a low oil pressure problem? I would like to try to get 300k out of this car.

There is an o ring around body of oil pump to act as a backup seal to the gasket between pump and the back of the oil pump bore. The o ring will not cause low oil pressure. The gaskets have no issues I've eve seen. The pick up tube inside pan and the o rings on the tube between oil filter housing and the oil cooler supply holes can leak and give low oil pressure. If the pan comes off those should be replaced.

So, if I have low oil pressure, which I don't, or need to take the pan off for another reason, replace them, but if not don't worry until there is an issue?
