XC90 2.5t oil pressure sender location?

Post by tbrd » Thu May 11, 2017 3:20 pm

Hello all,

I've been pulling my hair out trying to find where the oil pressure sender is located on a 2006 XC90 2.5t. I have the much loved "no oil pressure" light and want to check the pressure with a real gauge. Pan seals have all been recently replaced. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!
Mike

I think the location for Oil Pressure Sensor is the same for Volvo 850, S70, XC90 2.5T engines.
Why do you need to replace it?
The O-ring in the oil pan may be damaged.
Check oil level.
Maybe the passage is clogged?

Once the OPS is out, hook up a pressure gauge and start engine, take the readings at different rpm's and compare with specs.

Thank you! Just the picture I needed!

Ordered a gauge, but hasn't come in yet. So I went ahead and replaced the oil pressure sender..and for several start ups and for 4 miles of driving, no oil pressure light, then wham! Intermittent "no oil pressure light"!

I just replaced the seals in the oil pan again (and they were still good... only about 40,000 miles since they were last replaced). No sludge, pickup tube was clean too. Also replaced the oil cooler since I was there.

Any thoughts on what to check next (beyond putting a pressure gauge on)?

Thanks again!

Ok... narrowed the problem down to when the engine is hot and below 700rpm or so the light comes on...rev the engine just a little and the light goes out. It's a band aid approach, but any thoughts on moving up to a heavier weight oil or bumping the timing a little? I can't find any leaks at this point 🤔.

Thanks again!
