Driver Side Axle Stuck

Evening All,

I've spent hours trying to pull the driver's side axle out of the transmission and broken several tools in the process. I've tried a cold chisel, pry bar, back end of a hammer, slide hammer with axle puller attachment (loaner axle puller attachment doesn't fit with the clearance available, btw), and on and on. I rotated the axle to different positions and sprayed with PB blaster. And still, nothing.

I learned Volvo has a special tool - do they loan tools and would this be worthwhile to pursue? Any other ideas?

In some cases its possible to punch it out from the other side.
We got a difficult one out with slide hammer. Used vice grip to latch onto the cup.
How are you grabbing it?

The previous models Volvo 850, S70 has the axle splines bathed in ATF oil, so it is not that difficult with cold chisel.

The S60 axle setup has a blind end in the trans, so the axle splines become rusty with time, making it difficult to remove.
If you watch the video below, you will see later year V70 has the same issue.
The solution is to spray some PB Blaster just above the splines area and let it soak for hours...
