What is the issue leading to it needing a CEM?

About 6 weeks ago we drove the SUV from Texas to Miami stayed there 2 weeks and came back total about 3000 miles the anti skid service and DSTC came on several times car drove fine the other night my wife was 5 minutes from house started car abs check engine and other lights came on she told me to check.I tried to start car no luck Brake Failure - We diagnosed the car no communication to main computer with OBD even though I plugged in another used computer which started to read codes but wouldn't stat because probably needs programming so we put back old computer started car once and then again same problem no communication I also took it to Volvo specialist not dealer who is very reasonable also said it needs CEM

One other thing to test are the shunts. Although my experience was with an XC70 - after much chasing (including rebuilt CEM) I found out a shunt was bad and it was taking everything down.

SuperHerman - just wondering where was the shunt located that you replaced?

Yes, please, where are shunts, have a CEM issue, cleaned all corrosion from typical water damage from leaks on PC last year, solved problems, sealed CEM better, but now it won't crank and I went through everything, new starter, checked starter relay, fuse, changed battery, everything else works, just won't crank, so looking for more possibilities.
