What DIYs do we need?

Post by matthew1 »

I'm working with new MVS partner http://usparts.volvocars.com (Ad is in the sidebar on MVS Home and all VRD pages) to get a few DIYs written.

They're great people, and my contact John is a sharp guy. I'm excited to be working with them.

So what DIYs are we thin on?

Volvo model can be any, P80, P2, P3... to today.

They're going to throw some time and resources at creating DIYs -- and they've got a great "pole position" at this because 1) OEM parts, 2) a facility, 3) Volvo mothership knowledge and experience to back them.

If you could wave your magic DIY writeup wand and make any DIY guide appear, what car and procedure would it be?

I own a 2006 XC90 and I notice that XC90 forum there are far less DIY info and entries then others. Would love to see more in that area. No one specific repair since the info is thin currently.

Just a few ideas:

- Power steering line replacement: For those subject to road salt, feel like that's right around the corner for many of us.

- P80 clutch job... Both by pulling the engine and by dropping the subframe. (So we can decide which tickles our fancy!)

Turbo Stuff....

From removal and install of a like for like.... there's a lot of plumbing and hoses back there to climb through... to rebuilding of within the DIYers abilities. There are rebuild kits available and it's not that hard if you're thoughtful.

To possibly include DIYable upgrades and swaps... which would document additional requirements such as intake, exhaust, injector and ECM upgrades.

I'm heading down this path with Sven and a lot of the information is out there, RPSI has done some good How-Tos, but for anything more it's scattered and some unconfirmed. Would be nice to have it in one accessible location that won't Error 404 on us!!

Thanks for making this possible Matt!!!

I own a turbo model 99 v70 xc.
This would be for almost any turbo owner maybe.
Say that you buy/bought a turbo volvo. And with all of the small ways to tweek the turbo and not knowing what has been done..it would be nice to know how to set a waste gate vacuum vale from scratch.
Like applying vacuum to what and when it should open.
I cannot seem to find anything like that in the forums.

Thank you.

It's a little bit niche of an DIY but I'll suggest it anyway. For repairs involving the folding headrests (in the rear) I've had a tough time (even in VIDA) finding any reference to repairing/removal of the unit. If that could be done that would be awesome.

I'll expand on coded9's wish list...

How about a DIY for when your folding seat latch won't unlatch?!?! How do you disassemble the latch and or set in such a way as to not destroy it before repairing it?

Another idea to fit under this same umbrella.... How about when your hood cable breaks? How do you open the hood without that simple little lever?

Knock on wood, I haven't had to deal with the hood yet, but I'm trying to figure out the rear seat where the lever moves but won't unlatch!! Can't find any reference to this anywhere!!

I would enjoy seeing a write up for a parking brake (hand brake) cable replacement on a P80.
