Volvo 850 no start with no Blink Codes - bad coil

Post by Vanillagrila »

Hello! I have a 1995 Volvo 850 Wagon, and recently the engine stalled suddenly, and won't start up (cranks fine). I have no check engine light, but when I try the blink codes on connector A2, I get nothing! Not even the 1-1-1 code! The only code I see is from the transmission computer for "Open or short on torque limiter circuit" which I'm blaming on the fact that the ECM isn't on. I couldn't find a pin-out for the ECM but I am guessing that the larger pins are the power and ground pins. There is no Voltage on those pins. The fuse is fine (its shared with the TCM). Is there another relay somewhere that turns on the ECM?

I already tried another ECM that I bought from eBay with the same results. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Quick update.... found a wiring diagram (not sure how applicable it is) and apparently the pin that the ECM is powered by is pin A30. With ignition on, there is no power on that pin. I just bypassed the fuel pump relay just to rule that out... still no start.

So it turns out that my Ignition coil shorted out, causing the ECM to switch off, which caused my tranny code. Replaced the Ignition Coil and the car started right up.

Thanks to anyone that took the time to look at my post!
