Hi All
Today, at start-up following a re-fuelling stop, the blower motor on my 1997 V70 suddenly got very noisy, then stopped altogether.
The noise is best described as a growling sound, but I quickly eliminated the possibility that I had a canine stowaway!
The A/C and recirc lights on the ECC unit both flashed. I switched the car off for a short time, and then on again and everything was fine. A bit later in the day the fan seemed a bit noisy, but again it quickly settled down and was then fine - no lights this time.
I suspect that either the fan motor or the resistor is dying. The A/C blows nice and cold and the heater gets nice and warm, and with the warning lights coinciding with the noisy fan I'm assuming therein lies the problem.
Anyone got any ideas and/or advice? It looks an easy enough fix to get to the blower motor and resistor (according to Haynes). Would it be worth taking it to bits and cleaning everything up, or is it as well simply to replace both components?
Thanks
Heater blower motor

I would try cleaning everything first as there was a similar post recently where the growling noise turned out to be a piece of paper in the system.

Update - the blower motor was at fault, but the resistor was fine. A search through the breakers got me a replacement motor, it was dead easy to replace.
One word of caution for anyone else doing this - the blower motor and resistor are not common to all 850 V/S/C 70 models, and parts are not necessarily interchangeable as different connectors were used on various models.
Both the motor and the resistor are clearly marked with part numbers to make identification easier. The glove box and the panel underneath need to be removed, but this too is quite easy to do.
