99 S70 Parking Brake Guidance

Anybody have an guidance on how often the parking brake shoes need replacement? I need to replace the disc brakes and rotors and am wondering if I should buy a set of parking brake shoes too. The parking brake is currently working fine. How long do the parking brake shoes last? If I wait to look it will be too late (or do the work twice).

They are just that....parking brake and work only when you pull the parking brake handle.
They don't wear at all but have tendency to fall appart...friction material separating from carrier just from heat of the rotor.
You will see their condition when you pull the rear rotors.
If they are fine...leave them.If not...replace them.
Even if you need to replace them later,it is a 30min job for both sides.

Bruce - by the parts local so you can return them, when you pull the rotors, evaluate and replace if they look either thin or if they are falling off. Mine lasted about 12 years/140k on my 99 but were used daily.

Same here, mine failed at around 150k and the liners separated. I would replace them as preventative maintenance if your car still has the original ones and is at around this mileage.
