Rear view mirror replacement

Post by azureblue »

(2001 V70 T5) I have a defective automatic rear view mirror. I've checked out the vids on replacing the glass only, how to separate the old mirror from the circuit board and transfer the CB to the new mirror, etc... I can get the glass from a parts yard, and there is one question I could use an answer to:

When I go to pull the part from the donor car, can I simply separate the front and back of the rear view mirror housing, then unplug the circuit board, instead of removing the entire assembly? It looks like all I need to do is to insert a screwdriver between the two pieces and pop it apart..

Thanks in advance...

If your 2001 has a separate key you can ask the wrecking yard if they have a working remote fob to match that donor car. If so simply swap BOTH fob and mirror as an entire assembly.

Saves time and frustration.

thanks for the tip, but the donor car didn't have any keys. It would be much easier to change the fob than the circuit board in the mirror, for sure.

Besides, my fob quit working when I changed it's battery. Next on the list....

Actually, there are methods for transfer data from old (original) mirror to replacement. And, there is way for reset used remote control also, and program it to mirror like new remote control.

I'm repairing mine at the moment, yes to get the casing apart you pry but your arms will pain, much easier to remove the whole mirroe and light as a unit. however dont pry the mirror off use a long blade

Thanks. I was lucky enough when I went to the parts yard to find the mirror assembly already removed from the donor car. Thanks for the caveat about not using a long blade to remove the donor mirror. I hope today I can take apart the donor rear view mirror assembly..
