1999 S70 Non-turbo - Cruise Control Fluctuates

Post by Reinie »

The cruise will set and hold speed, but it constantly fluctuates up and down. Has a Xemodex throttle body replacement. Could this be a vacuum leak?

How much are we fluctuating? Are there hills/downgrades involved?

Oh, that's not good. Cruise on a ETB car like your 99 is totally electronic, sosomething is wrong with the ETB.

How big speed fluctuations are you Seeing?

The controlling program for cruise is in the cluster on 99s and 2000s.

The cruise speed can't be held on downgrades (will over speed) and steep hills. Engine condition will determine whether it can hold cruise comfortably up a grade but there's a limit to how well it can do this. Is the throttle clean? A dirty throat can affect airflow and performance. How are spark plugs and air cleaner? How is cylinder compression?

I had a similar issue on my 99 v70 - turned out to be a bad wheel speed reluctor ring on the front. My cruise would jerk forward on and off even though speed was still reading properly.

Check your rings and maybe clean up the wheel speed sensors.
