Unable to unlock back door – HELP please

Last weekend the left rear door of my 2005 S 40 stopped unlocking. I can not open the left rear door. I have tried to unlock it with the switch on the drivers’ door, this has been un successful. It seemed that as soon as it was un-locked the power lock instantly re-locked it. Opened the window, and disconnected the battery in hopes that the power lock would not re-lock it. Still nothing! I have tried pulling the outside handle, once, twice, three times, all unsuccessful. As well as from the inside, all attempts have been unsuccessful. I can not carry passengers in the back seat! I have thought about trying to pull off the door liner, but I don’t know if I can get it off with the door shut. I’m looking for any other suggestions. Thank you!
