2000 V70 base speedo cluster/dash fitment

Post by scot850 »

A while back during the re-fresh of project V70, I pulled the dash top to remove the speedo to replace the light bulbs.

I re-fitted it and thought no more about it until one day in the garage I noticed the fitment of the upper dash pad to speedo surround to speedo unit on the LHS looks like crap. There is a fairly wide gap at the bottom between the grey surround of the dash unit and the speedo unit, and the fitment between the upper pad and the grey surround is poor at the top LHS (in both cases maybe a 3-4mm gap) but on the RHS everything fits neatly. Thinking I had re-fitted the dash pad back wrongly or the speedo unit I pulled it back apart today to have a look at it. From what I can see there is nothing I could have done to this to get it wrong, and nothing to fit it or make it fit better on the LHS (I'll take pictures later and post).

The speedo is located at the bottom by 2 rubber bushes that the 2 pins on the speed bottom locate into. This means the speedo can only fit in one position relative to the grey surround that the 2 top clips clamp onto. So I can see no way of fixing that gap. Same with the dash pad, nothing appears broken and the screws all fit into fixed locations so no adjustment there either. I can't say I have noticed this issue before on a P80 (98-00), but has anyone else seen this issue and more importantly got a way to fix it?

Thanks,

Neil.

Overall the fitment of the 3 parts appears way poorer on LHS. I can't see any obvious way to improve the fitment. any ideas?
