2004 XC70 low idle, rough start, etc. Where to buy decent throttle body?

Post by jmacfarland »

Hey everyone!

I bought my 04 XC70 (first car!) about a month ago. The mechanic who had worked on it previously told me it needed a new throttle body. It was having severe trouble starting, super low idle, etc. I removed it, cleaned it, and put it back in, and the car started up fine first try ONCE, then settled in to never starting on the first try, always on the second. In addition, sometimes when I crank it, the engine seems to get into a semi-stable pattern of very very shaky running (I don't really know how to describe it) and I have to shut it off and try again.

I've replaced the spark plugs (Bosch coppers), MAF sensor ($20 Ebay cheapo), and done a Seafoam/oil change since I bought it.

I'm fairly certain I do actually need a new throttle body. The issue is, FCP has the Bosch one for $360, whereas Ebay has 'em for round about $100. I don't have much money, which should I buy? Is there another decently reputable seller other than FCP with cheaper prices?

Welcome to MVS. Volvos don't like non-OEM MAFs. Can you take the car to the mechanic and swap in a known good MAF? From another car even? This sounds like a MAF problem.

Also look over Stage 0.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

You're in MA.

Go to Hollands salvage pick and pull in Billerica, lots of volvo's to grab very cheap parts there.
Its very close to rt 3, on winning rd just off treble cover rd.
The place is huge , at the front desk be sure to ask where the volvos are or you'll be wandering around lost.
