2000 V70 SE NA base wagon - Engine bay grounds question?

Post by scot850 »

I've broken this out from another thread as I'm guessing no one picked up on this when I raised it.

I asked how many grounds there are in the engine bay of my 2000 V70 SE NA base model. I plan to remove and re-clean the contact points on the grounds as I think there may be a connection to some of the random check light errors I am getting.

One question is the positioning of the grounds and if all engines are the same. The reason I ask is that the 'project' is different to any other P80's I recall in having no ground wire from the middle of the back of the cylinder head area to the firewall. When bought there was no sign of a wire having ever been fitted. There is a point to connect to as can be seen in the picture below:

In the picture above you can see a a blue colored nut to the right of the alarm horn. It does not look to have been ever used and I'm wondering if there is a ground wire missing from there to the hole on the back of the top torque mount casting directly in front of it.

I thought that maybe it was only turbos that had this in the 99-00 years, and NA models prior to that. But looking at pictures of the last project (97 850 SE NA) I can see a wire there on it.

At PnP yesterday, I pulled an almost brand new top torque mount block and it was on a 99 S70 NA. Attached below you can see it has a ground wire attached between these 2 points, just as my 2000 V70R has:

Clearly the question is should there be a strap there on a 99-00 or even a 00 V/S 70 NA motor? Is there any harm fitting one?

Many thanks,

Neil.
