2000 S70 non-Turbo trouble code P1671

Post by Brucebo »

Hi all,

This car is due smog inspection and I was about to take it in, but I put it off one week, and low and behold, in the interim the MIL came on with trouble code P1671. Based on what I could find in these forums I replaced

1. CVVT solenoid (both the old one and the new one ohmed good).

2. Replaced the CAM position sensor.

Neither of these had any effect. Engine is running fine. Code returns immediately after resetting it. Any ideas what else could be causing this?

Thanks,

-Bruce

Looks like I've found the problem! After further research and inspection, what has happened is the plastic wire loom around the wires has disintegrated. I removed all the old loom debris and noticed one of the wire leads has a melted spot in the insulation, exposing the copper wire, which was apparently shorting to the head! I pulled the wires up and away from the head, and wiggled the solenoid connector, and the problem appears to have gone away.
