So I got a 99 S70 Manual with about 13 0500 miles on it. The problem is that it's difficult to put the car into reverse. If I put it in 3 or 4 first and then reverse it's way easier. When out in reverse it's also easy to put it in 5 and reverse again, no problem. But putting it in 1 or 2 and then reverse again is difficult.
I have swapped the gearbox oil and I have replaced the shifting cable bushings with metal ones. It did make it easier to shift but it didn't resolve the problem with putting it in reverse. I just wondered if someone has any other suggestions on what I could try? It feels like the shifting cable might be to much tensioned. Beacuse putting it in reverse, it feels like there isn't enough cable. Is there a way to adjust the cable so it isn't as tight?
*Sorry for my poor english.

I've got 2 automatic 850ies and one with a manual tranny quite recently. And i think, compared to other manual cars I have owned over the years, it is quite hard to put reverse into gear. Maybe this is a safety feature because you don't have to pull a ring or push onto the shifter to shift into reverse.

Baxtex,
You are not alone. I too have a 99 s70 manual (110K) with the same issue.
Sometimes, but not always, I do find it difficult to put into reverse. It feels as if it just doesn't want to go into reverse. Like things aren't quite aligned right.
But also like you , moving the shifter into 3rd quickly seems to put things right again and it always then slips into reverse easily.
I haven't investigated it at all yet. I have been just living with that quirk. I wish I knew what was wrong or how to fix it.
So far, nothing bad has happened other than requiring an extra 1 second and a quick flip up to 3rd first. Odd though....
