Help identifying this connection?

Post by CJFusco »

Hi all -- I was poking around today under the hood of my 1997 850 wagon and found an electrical connection that doesn't seem to be connected to anything. Does anyone have any idea what this is for? As you can tell, it's near the headlight assembly, in front of the battery. Thanks in advance.

It could be a couple of things. Does your car still have headlight wipers? Normally the connector clips onto the shroud in the front of the picture about the middle as it is viewed. Connector though does not look correct.

Has your car had a SAS pump delete done on it? The SAS pump sits under the battery tray.

Lastly, I can't recall if the 850's have the hood latch alarm which should connect to the side of the latch assembly just out to the right of the picture above.

Thanks for the quick response. The car does still have its headlight wipers, and they are still functional. I believe it still has the SAS pump; as far as I can tell, the secondary air system has its stock components in place. As for the hood alarm: maybe that's it? In the 3 years that I've owned the car, I've never seen any evidence of a functional alarm system.

What is strange is there is nothing to plug into. Could be someone has swapped in another latch with the connector still attached. Check under the battery tray. It may be disconnected as it was faulty and tripping the alarm?

Could it be for the hood latch switch? Or fog lights?
