gas tank/evap

Post by jwen »

I pump gas and the nozzle keeps clicking. I cant fill tank completely.
I read about the evap system. Any one offer me any suggestions?
IS it the evap valve? is there a filter? blow air?

Your car is listed as a '99, so my experience with a '97 850 may not apply to your situation, but I had the same symptoms a couple of years ago. The cause on my car ('97 855 GLT, 198k miles) was a blocked tubing connecting to the roll over valve. Others have reported that the roll over valve can become stuck. When the flow of air through the roll over valve is reduced or blocked, the air pressure that builds up during refueling cannot escape the tank and flow to the charcoal canister (where the gas vapors are filtered and stored). When the air pressure builds up, it causes the filling nozzle to shut off the flow of gas into the tank.

It's pretty easy to access the tubing and valve and check them out. They are located near the fuel filter on the 850 series.
