Hi there,
I had replied to the other thread recently and it reminded me that my gas door got stuck about a week or two ago and i had to bang it to get it open. I had since then sprayed it with some lube, but then i was wondering how to open it if it ever happens again. I found a nice video by Robert, and that was interesting, but apparently my gas door is a little different.
Mine has a plastic hook like this that sticks out from the door itself and goes into the hole where i guess the solenoid is located. The plastic hook isnt really a hook, it's more like an "L" shape where the bottom part of the "L" points down.
What i was wondering is if there is some way to stick a knife in there between the door and the body to lift up on that plastic hook thing, or any other ideas how to get it open in a pinch.
Thanks.

Gas Door Gets Stuck
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Look at the current thread from DrJammer. It covers the info you mention.

You'll have to open trunk, pull lining back a little, reach in and pull the hard to reach lever, but it happens to mine too- most often when I'm in a truly huge hurry!

My electric motor (for the gas door) works 99% of the time, there is 1% of the time it does not work.
So I use a copper wire (12 gauge solid copper wire used in household wiring), wrap it around the end of the motor (see the youtube video below).
The other end of the copper wire is in the trunk.
Whenever I the door does not open, I simply open the trunk and pull on my ghetto copper wire and bingo, the fuel door opens.
I will take some photos when I have time.

I borrowed some photos from the video to show you my ghetto fix (wire in the trunk).
Once you see the video above, the plunger extends (LOCKED) and retracts (UNLOCKED).
So, wrap a wire as shown and whenever the gas door is stuck, open the TRUNK and pull on the ghetto wire to release the gas door.
PS: Your other option is to remove the plastic tab on the gas door itself, this way the door is never locked, but you run a tiny risk of vandalism.

Hi,
Oh thanks for the photos. I guess that works with a worm gear?
I'll have to check mine out too then. Good idea with the wire, i have some steel wire around too.
