We are thinking of going to either South Carolina or Nashville to go see the big Sun Block....full disclosure, we aren't sure if we are taking the P2 or the Eurovan camper. I sure am going to stay away from the Eastern seaboard as fast as I can get in to the Hills. High estimates for SC are 2M people right now...that's three Woodstocks on the road that weekend....ugh

We just booked Nashville...its really full, though. Nothing in major chains available that weekend. We got a campsite just south of totality and hopefully can move up into the shadow in the morning

I'm in Charleston, SC... perfect spot, but yeah, we're expecting a million plus people showing up. Traffic here is already bad on a good day. Also, it'll probably be cloudy with a thunderstorm.

Low estimates 600k to SC, high estimates 2M

I hope you don't get the high estimate.

Friend from Chicago has been talking about driving down to southern tip of IL. But I'm not sure if he wants me to go along or watch the dog. It's a six hour drive. Round trip amounts to the equivalent of a cross country trek. If he thinks I'm going to ride in that Civic of his for that long I'll pass.

Flying to Denver over the weekend and then driving to Casper, WY for the actual event. The flight from Dallas was less than 300 round trip; haven't yet priced the hotel, but the rental car was actually more expensive, though I'll be splitting those two.

I think Nashville is pretty slammed, but if you're willing to drive a few hours from cities that aren't quite in the path, you can save a bunch and still see the eclipse.

You really want to be in totality if you have not seen it before. Even on the prime path you will only get about 3 minutes, but its an amazing sight to see the Corona - which inspired a song by the Knack of course..

:!: Enjoy that, folks! I still remember when we had a total eclipse some 15 years ago. The next one in Austria will be in 2080 or so, unfortunately I won't be aroind then, i guess...
