s60 16T upgrade without tuning

Post by SantaFe75 »

Hey everyone,

I'm sure this has been asked and answered however, I can not find a conclusion.

I have an '03 2.4L LPT s60. I would like to install a TD04HL-16T that I have laying around.

I have heard that I can put the turbo in without having to tune it and, it will run better. I understand that if it is possible, I won't get the full potential without the tune. If I can run "no tune" will I see any noticeable gain?

At around $700 I can not afford a tune right now.

P.S. I would delete the cat when installing the turbo. Stage 0 complete.

If you delete the cat, check engine light will come on.

If you just installed the 16T turbo and no other changes, you will not net more power than what you have now with your stock turbo. You may even add more boost delay into your system, as the ECU uses the MAF sensor to calculate the amount of air going into the engine and the ECU will allow boost up to a certain point. When it see the amount of air reached, ECU simply drops the boost level. So, adding bigger turbo will not allow you to have more air into engine, with no more air, you will gain zero.

So, why throw $700 away with ZERO gain?

If you delete the cat the engine light will come on, BUT...a simple 02 spacer will eliminate that or you can have it tuned out when you get your tune. Depending on what state you live in, it wouldn't matter anyhow, example, Florida.

The car will love a catless downpipe and so will you.
