Hello all,
Hoping to get some sage advice for an issue I am having. My 2004 XC70 with 177,770 mi was having steering issues, so I replaced the rack and that took care of my steering issues. To replace the rack I dropped the subframe completely as I wanted to take a look at the bushings and it is easier to replace the rack with it off the car.
So, here is what happened when I took it for a test drive:
-Started to hear a squealing sound from under the car below center console (best guess)
-Sound got louder and more grinding like with more load on the car.
Here is what is not happening:
-car makes zero noise when I take my foot off the gas
-not having any shifting or lag issues/seems to be running great
What I did this am:
-I put the car up on stands and engaged drive on the shifter and no noise
-I then started to put ever increasing rpm's on the gas and still no noise and all 4 tires moving freely
That is where things stand.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Cheers...Tim

I would consider backtracking and redoing everything, loosen subframe and retighten, look for misaligned frame parts.
Somethin is out of place.
Tightening sequence might be wrong, are you supposed to bolt engine to subframe first...then engine mounts or the other way around.
