transmission interchange 1999 v70r

All,
I would like some confirmation / information on transmission interchange. The target car is a 1999 v70r. As I understand it, any awd trans from a turbo car of model years 1999 - 2000 will fit with the exception of the 2000 R, is this correct? I have also seen a few posts on this site saying that earlier transmissions will work if the speed sensors are changed, can anyone confirm or deny whether this is the case? The 1998 cars are much more plentiful and that would make a replacement much easier to find if true. Also, does anyone have a trans around that they are tired of looking at?
