Hello peoples of matthewsvolvo!!!
I have a 2001 s60 2.4t non turbo with 240,000 miles. I just did the R.M.S. it ran fine and drove fine before I did that. The only issue was it Was leaking oil like a sieve. Now it doesn't leak oil at all so I was hopping I could finally use it. But now it will shift into park only, and all the other gears just act like neutral. I replaced the pnp/neutral safety switch/gear position switch. But still the same problem the only difference is it will now tell me what gear it's supposed to be in instead of a --- on the dashboard. It also revs erratically when in any gear but park. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
2001 s60 won't drive. Topic is solved

You had the transmission out, right?
Is it making any unusual noises?
Did you bolt the flywheel to the torque converter after reinstalling the transmission?

Hahaha, yes I had the transmission out. But I'm positive I bolted it to the torque converter. And it doesn't seem to be making any unusual noises. It's just as if it was always in neutral. And when you shift it out of park it will rev sometimes all the way to 4K.

There are "electrics" inside the trannie.....could there be a plug (containing the power it needs) you failed to make?...or a signal wire?...or some crankshaft positioning sensor wire left undone so the trannie thinks nothing's running?
I know you didn't open the trannie.
Is there fluid in it? A "friend" came by and rolled the unit over and drained the fluid while you took a dinner break?

I plan on checking all 6 of the connections again but I'm pretty sure there all good. And as for fluid I drained it before I took the tranny out and then refilled it when I put it back on, I'll check the level again though.
And thanks for the input!!!!

I've seen references that full flushes can wreak havoc with these transmissions if the proper procedure isn't followed.
If you drained the TC while it was out of the car I'm wandering if there is a specific procedure for first fill on a new or rebuilt (dry of fluid trans) you may need to follow.
Experts?

Oops sorry I just reposted my last reply.
I actually drained the transmission while it was on the car still, then refilled it after I put it back on. And it was just a drain and refill not a full flush. It only took about 4.5 quarts so i was actually wondering if it didn't have enough fluid, but the level on the dipstick shows that it is fine so I'm not sure.

The only electrical connectors that would result in non-movement would be the wire loom for the valve body solenoids. However, having that disconnected would throw error codes on the TCM not seeing the expected resistances for the solenoids.
Leaving the shift position switch would result in -- on the dash display, which isn't currently what's happening.
The speed sensors are an interesting thought. They share a connector. Not connecting them would cause an error code.
But swapping the speed sensors could cause some strange behavior. The one toward the front of the car is the input speed sensor, it's reading the speed of the input shaft to the transmission. The rear one is the output speed sensor. It reads the speed of the output drum. If the TCM sees you put the car into gear and the "output" speed jumps up while the "input" is zero, the engine would rev to try to ramp up the input to support output. This would explain the surge in revs up to 4000 rpm. Having said that, I'd expect some motion.
Check the wires near the speed sensors. The front one is yellow and white, I think and the rear one has grey wires.

Hey, sorry about the very late update I've been really busy. So I finally figured it out.... when I put the trans back in because it was my first time ever doing anything with a transmission I failed to align the torque converter right and destroyed the the pump. So I then bought a new transmission and installed it without any problems. But when I took it for a test drive it miss shifted and reved out well past we're the rev limiter is supposed to be and blew the rms out. So I then took the trans out again for a third time replaced the seal and put it back together. It now runs back perfect (well perfect for a car with 240k) but with the stock tcm it miss shifts and revs way out which is scary because I'm not taking it apart again, and with another tcm that came with the transmission it doesn't show any indicator lights on the dash or console, and is stuck in 3rd gear won't shift up or down and shows no indication of trying to. So my conclusion is that the problem is with the tcm and I am beginning to think maybe it needs to be paired using vids dice which I don't have access to. Any input would be awesome!!! And thanks for all the help you offered earlier on!!!
