Fuel pump problems

Post by CjTari »

Hello there, new to the forum, hopefully i can get some advice with my car.

I have a 2009 S40 automatic, non turbo and yesterday it died on me and i suspect its the guel pump. The car cranks but it just doesnt start. I checked for fuel pressure on the injector rail and nothing, ive been seeing that a lot of older models have issues with the PEM, so i checked it out and it seems ok, non of the components seem corroted or any visible damage.

One of my main questions is, to access the fuel pump you have to drop the fuel tank? I was tryin to look for access under the backseat but no luck.

It's probably your fuel pump. It would probably be a good idea to check voltage at the connector when you turn the key to make sure it's getting power and the issue isn't related to something else.
As for how to get to it, I can't help you much there. Check under the carpet under the seat, like you said, and check under the carpet in the trunk.

Does anyone know where the fuel pump relay is on our cars?
On the older 850's and S/V/C70's it was under the hood and often the culprit for the description in the post here- You could even jump 2 pins in the relay slot to start the car and you could drive that way until you had time to go and replace the relay. Actually because this was such a common problem on those cars I always carried a spare relay in the glove box. I wonder of the P1 is similar in any way?
