Hello,
I followed search advice and ordered a new gear shift knob after mine came off and shift button broke (I possibly broke it fiddling...but the whole handle was in a bad state already). I am not concerned with the overdrive wiring as I have been without for 12 years so far. New one arrived next day and I noticed that the new part does not have the overdrive button (there's just the space for the part) and I was curious if there is anything else missing if I just bought the gear shift knob (#6843471) that I am unaware of before I put it in place to drive off. I'd head to a mechanic and I might just do that but I am on the road currently and turn around time will be slow in this area. I can get it into gear without the knob, but I'd rather not shift around too much without the knob. Sorry if this sound ignorant! Car has done me well for many years; just want to try get it back to home. Thanks.

When I tried to place the new knob on, it won't slide down and release the button. I can shift without the knob by pressing down the shifter by hand without the knob. Any idea as to why the new (correct) knob won't fit down?
