The Problem:
(The problem happens about once in every 30-35 starts) I go to start her up, (RPMs go up) but she dies right away, if I keep trying and turning the key she cranks but wont start. But if I remove the key, put it back in the column, crank, then she will start. I know its not the Key because I have 3 of them and each one results in the same problem.
Here are 2 reasons why I am skeptical though and looking for input...
1. I don't get any check engine light codes when it fails to start. I've tried scanning when it wont start, by leaving the key in on the "on" (II) position and scan... nothing.
2. I can lessen how often this problem occurs... If I get in the car, put my key in and click it to the "on" (II) position, and wait about 5 seconds... Then crank it, I'm good. If I do this it starts right away (about 95% of the time) with no problem. On the other hand, if I quickly put the key in and immediately try crank it, that seems to "upset"
Also, after running the car, if I shut her off and then immediately try to start her again (keeping the key inside the column) she often wont start.
Any ideas? The problem seems to scream "Immobilizer ring!" But the "waiting 5 seconds to successfully crank" and "no codes" for the immobilizer makes me think something else like fuel pump?
Also could this be the symptom of a weak battery? My battery was tested a few months back as "weak". I don't remember specifically how it was "weak" but the guy recommended me getting a new battery before winter.
