The final straw? Car won't move. V70xc

I replaced my driver side CV axle but now the car will not move. I can put it in any gear but the car stays put. I even put the old CV axle back in and the car will still not move. Any ideas? Is it possible that I pulled the inner and outer axles apart and that is the cause... the axle?

This has been a good car, but I guess all good things come to an end.

The half shaft popped out of the wheel side or the transmission side.

Thanks Matthew, I'm about to go out and jack up the driver side and see if the wheel will turn with the car in Park. The axle is definitely seated at the wheel, and I'm pretty sure it is seated at the diff but I will double check. If both are seated then logically the problem has to be with the connection in the axle's inner boot? That would be a pain but not a disaster.

...and the wheel does spin.
The entire axle is turning when I spin it by hand so the axle splines are not meshing with the differential, BUT the joint cover is flush against the diff housing. This is going to take a bit of figuring.

You mean, the front axle is turning inside the transmission?

Careful not to drive the car if one axle doesn't grab the diff splines correctly, it can damage the transmission.

Correct oragex. My next theory is that when I replaced the inner axle seal I did not push it far enough into its housing in the differential. I left the outer edge flush with the housing (which is where the old seal was positioned). There is space behind it so it can go further in, so that may be keeping the cir-clip from latching.

Don't worry - it isn't going to be driven like this.

Quick test if either of the front freewheels with both wheels up your axles arent connected to each other!

Quite often the aftermarket axles come with wrong circlip, several people had this. If you still have the old one, just try installing it. Maybe the new one is indeed too large and doesn't go in there. Plus, if it's too tight, no more chance to remove the axle from there next time when needed

Side note, surely not your case but good to know the axles for turbo are different than ones for non turbo, sometimes a place may send the wrong one
