How long for a P0012 (intake cam pos timing over retarded) code to appear on '02 s60?

Post by nikolajs »

Just did the timing belt, cam seals and CVVT hub (on intake cam) on a 2002 S60 non-turbo.

I checked the timing and belt tension about 50 miles after completing the job just to be sure and everything looked fine. Plus I used a cam locking tool while doing the work.

After driving approx. 400 miles with no problems the P0012 code was thrown.

How quickly is the p0012 code normally thrown if the timing is actually off by a couple teeth? In other words, would one expect this code to show up right away if the timing is off?

If the timing really is off, is there a way to tell by how much its off?

I'll be checking the timing marks and tension again tomorrow...

thanks,

What sort of cam locking tool did you use, was it the front type?

It bolts into the backside of the cams and then the two halves are bolted together.

IPD sells it: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/9735/12 ... cking-tool

You probably did not preload new VVT hub correctly.

VIDA can tell what what angle it commands to the hub and what actual angle it turns to.
