Persistence. You need to squeeze them in exactly the right position at 180 degrees. I often use a puff of WD40 as I twist because the hoses have hardened.

Thanks Mike

I'm not even sure what to compress and what I'm twisting.

The force required is pretty high if they are old hoses. I must admit I cut them the first time then purchased new ones so I could see the mechanism close-up. IPD have some budget priced ones that I've used but I consider them a one-use quality in terms of the quick release mechanism due to inferior plastics.

Perhaps bypass the heater core then go back to it later?

I can release them at the block ..I just need 4 inches of slack in one of them to drop the engine for a clutch job

Got through first four pages of clutch in one hour today, well done.

The upper heater hose is the tighter one and is easily removed from the head.

You keep the whole assembly from turning while also exerting pulling action with one hand while twisting anticlockwise with the other hand. What could be simpler??

Anyone for a game of Twister?
