message SRS Service Required Urgent

Post by SandCastle »

Just went through issue with a/c - pulled Climate Control Module (put original back in), replaced fan and regulator. A/C works now.
Now the dash messenger says SRS Service Required Urgent. Guessing this is an effect of having the battery negative disconnected for 3 weeks. Question is what is my next step? Would like to make sure the SRS is okay and get rid of the message.

Your airbag system is now non operative.

Usually this happens when you swap out the CCM with battery connected.

You'll need a Vida/Dice or a scanner that can handle this. Also Autel MD-801 or similar.......

NON-Operative?! Is it really? If that's the case, half of everyone driving around in a P2 volvo is driving with no airbags system. Lots of owners have that same warning displayed on their dash.

I think thats why Volvo puts the word 'URGENT' in the message.

The SRS module will NOT fire any airbags until all systems are operative. I believe this also includes any pyrotechnics for seat belt tensioning systems in the event of a collision.

You can check this on any Volvo forum or with any Volvo workshop.

It's your life........protect it or buy a Toyota.

I beg to differ. It seems that the system is NOT actually disabled due to the warning light.

IM calling those threads inconclusive. There is a VIDA reference that perhaps someone could post to guide.

Bottom line, if airbags are important to you , fix your car until the message is gone

If the "urgent airbag warning" light means that the airbags are indeed disabled, then everyone driving around with it on are playing Russian roulette. I have seen this warning light on in many Volvos that I have seen.
Most often unplugging and replugging in a seat connector or stereo lead will trigger the warning. It remembers, even if you replug the connections in question and never shuts off. The dealer must reset it.
So I would say that 95% of those "airbag warning urgent" messages are bunk and the system is still operational.

If someone has source code for the SRS system we could have a good discussion about this.

When I get SRS codes on my cars, I fix them. I do have an intermittant one on my VW that I am trying to source parts, but that car rarely drives above the air bag trigger speed any how.
