Cam Position Sensor differences

I ordered what I believed to be the correct part. Even after receiving replies from other purchasers that confirmed this was the correct part for my 2001 S80- this is where I am now-

Has my vehicle been modified?
Some years different?
Wrong part?

I have seen both versions listed on part sites. New guy to Volvo- confused.

Looks like the original wire connector was cut and an older version of the sensor was spliced onto it and covered with heat shrink insulation.

There was a change in production. Check your chassis number (last 6 digits of your VIN number.)

Up to #239999 it uses part number 9202134, which has the cable attached. (I think this is what you have on the car.)

Starting with Chassis #240000 it uses part number 30713370, which looks like what you bought.

Thus, I think you bought the wrong one.

One trick I like to use - the Volvo part number is either a 7 or 8 digit number, and is usually on the part. (In the case of your cam position sensor, I think it is stamped into the plastic.) I go to my favorite search engine and enter "Volvo" and the part number. Sometimes it's been superceded, but the new part always has the old part number in the description, so this usually finds multiple sources.

I wouldn't purchase one single solitary part for my Volvos without a quick Vida lookup. You can download just the software for free or buy it for about $25 online. Saves a ton of headaches.
