Helping a friend a few hundred miles away with them. I'm a transplant from the P2 XC70 world but looking into a 3.2L myself, so interested.
She has a 2007 3.2 with 100K miles FWD.
This am 50F and raining she said it lit up with "power system service urgent" message and got a terrible screech sound but went away over 40mph and she said she got to work just fine.
Belt/tensioner?
alternator?
Something else?

Loose alt drive cog for the alternator cuff. The alternator driven cog has a one way clutch and it is likely seized or slip then catching and has stressed and loosened the drive cog. The drive cog is a faint interference fit onto a faintly tapered stubby shaft.
