Hi all,
I've recently been hearing a clunking noise from the front passenger side of my s70. The noise is triggered by pressing the brake pedal if the last pedal pressed was the accelerator, or by pressing the accelerator if the last pedal pressed was the brake. The noise does not occur if the brake is pressed multiple times in succession or if the accelerator is pushed multiple times. there is also a kind of rattling/grinding noise that happens at certain speeds when the car is allowed to coast with no accelerator input. My car is a T5 automatic. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I have no ideas what could be causing this. Thanks in advance.

Do you have the ability to get the front end up on jack stands? If so, test by shaking wheel up and down then left and right. Could be a bad ball joint or a wheel bearing on its way out - assuming it isn't an engine mount. I'm thinking it is two of those three issues...

Good chance the problem is the engine mount under the crank pulley on the RH side of the engine. This needs to be repaired ASAP.

Place a jack stand under the front sub-frame and then use your floor jack with a pick of wood on the jack pad and place it under the RH (passenger side) end of the oil pan. Raise the jack slowly and loot to see if the engine mount under the crank pulley separates between the metal plate bolted to the sub-frame and the rubber that should be bonded to it and is mounted to the block.
As you are in there, also check the CV joint on the axle. If it is a cheap aftermarket or badly worn out OE it could be clunking when the back lash is taken out when accelerating/slowing. Not sure that is the issue here though.

Hi guys,
Just thought I would update the thread since I got back from a test drive and the noises are gone. Checked the motor mount as scot850 suggested, tugged and rattled on everything else I could get my hands on. Only thing I can think of that fixed it is that i fully disassembled the brakes and reassembled them. I must've screwed something up last time I did the brakes XD. Thanks for all your help guys.

Glad you have fixed it, even though we don't know what was fixed!
