SRS Light - two part question, SRS Reader and what can be done

Post by speedyt5 »

99 s70 t5 ... SRS light is on due to side airbag in passenger seat. I do not have a windows laptop so I was looking at other SRS readers such as this one.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/VOLVO-DIAGNOST ... 1654149638 Does anyone know about these readers and if they actually will clear an SRS light. Then the next thing is, what can I do to the passenger sear side airbag to keep this light off? It's in perfect condition so I don't want to swap it out, anyone know a trick? Thank you.

The SRS light can get switched on by dis-connecting the battery, or some other electrical parts being disconnected when the system is live.

So if you can get the SRS light switched off, see if it comes back on again. Also check the wiring to the underside of the seat. The connector for the air-bag is near the front and may have been bumped loose or have a broken wire to it.

On the tester, I have not used hits one as I have Vida Dice, but the claims are high for the unit. Although it infers it can switch DTC's off, some systems can only read SRS lights but not switch them off. Price for the unit is pretty good and if it does what they claim I may look at one for myself as easier to carry around at auctions and the like compared to laptop and Dice unit!

FCP Euro also have a iCarsoft unit that claims the same capabilities, but looks different. They have a lifetime warranty too:

Thanks Neil, I would much rather buy from FCP Euro because of their great customer service and I can pick up a few other things I need for the car while I'm at it, will buy that one tomorrow.

The 2000 V70 I drove for 5 years had one instance of SRS for driver's seat airbag early in ownership.

Resetting it didn't work until I pulled apart the connector with orange wire close to the seat base and cleaned off the contact. Then drove around for 5 years without issue.

Never had an SRS light due to a battery disconnection and I work with these vehicles often to remove modules for repair. Sometimes a reset of Network via Canbus can cause this on P2s but these 1999 and 2000 S70s and V70s had a k-line data system which wasn't very sensitive.

BTW I've heard good things about the Carsoft I-906 in terms of Volvos and SRS.

Messed up the posting part…. Does this imply that the communication and fault tracing by Vida is done via the K-line data link on my 99 v70? All done thought that white wire on pin 7 of the obd plug.

And I should also note that the 99 v70 does also use Canbus. However, the SRS, ECC, central locking system, and power seat module do not have Canbus capabilities, only K-line..and those are the modules with which my Vida will not communicate. The IMMOB, TCM,CDM, and ECM have Canbus as well as K-line and are recognized and read by the VIDA. This is leading me to believe the problem may be with my K-line system rather than my SRS module specifically.

I currently have the console out..and as someone suggested it looks like more than one Macs milkshake got spilled in there. Plugs 7A&B are gooey put the contacts appeared ok. The cover on the SRS module itself saved that, but I will remove and clean all plugs with… I have CRC Electronics Cleaner..is this a good choice? I see that K-line DLC runs about everywhere. Should I check continuity from the 7B to whatever module plug I can get my hands on? Battery’s disconnected of course. Don’t know if I’m on the right track for my SRS light problem or not but I’m on a track.
