XC70 2005 -> Ignition coils and sparks

Hi dudes,

My son had a misfiring problem and he ended up to the local mechanic where the issue occurred.
They said two cylinders were misfiring (4 & 5) and therefore they had to change two ignition coils and all the 5 sparks.

I do not want to discuss anything which is cost related because I felt already bad enough

, however I wanted your opinion on the parts the mechanic has used, which have been supplied by guess who? NAPA:

- Sparks P/N 7092
- Ignition Coils P/N UNI IC471

Now, the sparks appear to be from NGK so I am confident they are good.
Regarding the coils they are from Echlin and here I am blind because I have never heard of them before and I have no idea of their quality level.

Is anybody familiar with the Echlin parts?

My other concern is that two adjacent cylinders were misfiring, I read that the head gasked could be the root cause, but they did not mention anything about it. What do you think?

Don't worry about the head gasket.

Coils often fail in pairs. I don't know that brand either

If the misfires are gone it will be immediately apparent; car will drive smoothly on both light and heavy throttle application. Echlin wouldn't be my preferred brand however you get what you pay for. Bosch would be more ideal as they are the OEM manufacturer.

Yes, the car drives fine now, unfortunately when you are in the middle of nowhere and no time to get the parts you want, Bosch would have been my preferred choice too, you cross your fingers and hope.

Echlin was a major manufacturer for ignition / charging parts back in the day. I had a voltage regulator made by them on my '49 GMC. Were known for being robust. Made by Standard Motor Products. NAPA carries it as their brand and apparently has been revived.
Standard Motor Products pretty much brands for different nationwide stores. They make Echlin, BWD, Intermotor, etc.
