Error code EFI 448 1/2

Post by worklist »

Hi, the check engine light went on in my '98 V-70XC. I plugged it in to icarsoft Volvo code reader and get code; EFI 448 1/2. It also says "air pump, present".

Is this just an emissions thing with the secondary air system, or does it involve fuel system too?

Found a very good post on this:
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/78 ... connected/

"The pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) valve is opened and the pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump continues to operate. The integrator should now rise above a certain limit within 6 seconds, if this does not occur this indicates that the pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump is not operating or that the pulsed secondary air injection valve has not opened, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) EFI-448 Pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) pump is posted."

Sounds like either the pump or the valve. Yes, emissions...

If your SAS pump still works, then the first thing that fails is the valve at the back of the block. Remove it and check if it seals when blown through. Typically they jam open and then allow condensation to run down into the pump and seize it. Not sure the valve throws the code though. More likely the pump.
