Missing rear intake cam seal

I found this on my 2001 V70 2.4T. There is no oil seal on the rear of the intake camshaft, just the plug which you removed. This is very model specific however, so it may not be the same for others.

My concern is if there is a drain hole on the other side of the seal, you may be blocking oil from properly draining.

No seal on my 1999. New cap does not seep oil.

No problem leaving the seal in place, some mechanics like the double coverage. There are NO moving parts outside of the seal so no problem.

My assumption was that the engine was designed to operate without a seal in that location, and that putting one there would put it out of spec (in terms of the force required to turn the camshaft with or without the seal in place). But maybe the spec includes some latitude in that area... or maybe I'm being overly analytical.
