98 S70 automatictransmission slipping in before going into 1st gear
Hello everyone, I've driven the car daily for about 4 years. Within the last week, when I put it into drive, it seems to not want to engage first gear for a couple of seconds and the engine revs up a little. If I give it more gas, it seems to not want to engage even more. I can't detect any problem going into other gears once I get going. No error lights are coming on, except the check engine light, which has stayed on since I bought it, which I understand is normal for a car this old.

You should read the codes and clear. There isn't anything normal about the CEL coming on

Sounds like the beginning of a totally blocked transmission filter. Check color of fluid on dipstick. If it's mauve (not red) and smells burned it will need a fluid exchange. Does it lightly "thump" into gear with more revs?
Changing the fluid may add some life; better do it quick before it stops dead.
