Speedometer Gauge - 1998 S70

Hello all,

New Volvo owner here. I picked up a 1998 S70 the other day and while it drives great I've noticed that the speedometer gauge has stopped working, engine lights have been flashing up then disappearing (ABS, I believe), the turn signals stop working (both bell and light).

I would guess that because the speedo has issues that the odometer reading is inaccurate (76k as of this morning).

The gear shift also sticks right after starting up (I presume because of a known ignition switch issue) but goes away if I jiggle the key a little.

My question is this: what's the procedure for checking all connections/fuses/bulbs to ensure they're intact and not deteriorated, and are there any other things I should check based on the symptoms? I've already figured out what I'd need to get the ignition switch sorted out.

You have either one or 2 faults.

If jiggling the key helps the ignition/transmission issue, then it is likely the electrical portion of the ignition switch is worn out and needs replaced. It can also cause issues with the dash lights. I would replace that first. But if the speedo and other issues continue, it is your ABS unit that is failing. Contact Matty at Mid-West ABS for a recondition one.
