VOLVO junkyard in Sweden

Just got back from 2 weeks in northern Sweden (Kiruna) and was very disappointed to not find a junkyard or 2nd hand parts shop. Apparently the Sweds dont buy second hand auto parts??....I called in at the only Dealer in town and he confirmed there are nothing in the north of Sweden. Anyway heaps of old Vovo's everywhere you look. Bils in Swedish is auto i believe and they dont call them junkyards, they are called bilskrot.

Found this junkyard in Reykjavik Iceland purely by mistake, was just driving around the industrial area

You're right that there are few junkyards here. Most cars are just scrapped straight away after being stripped for useful parts. The market for used parts is there though but the parts are sold from the shelf and online for the most part.

Also there's quite a market for spare parts donors since you don't get much for you car when scrapping it. Getting an entire car for parts where one or two important things are broken so that it can't be driven is a great deal if you have the space.

Bil is short for automobile. The result of a newspaper contest way back for a more convenient name.
