gauge cluster intermittent and rough running

I changed the dash bulbs in the 2000 C70, and when I put it back together one of the mounts for the cluster top clips broke. Didn't think it would be a big deal. About a week later, I noticed the gauges died and several warning lights came on and the it ran very rough. When I hit the dashboard top, it ran well and gauges 'came back'. all was well for a month and yesterday, the same thing happened upon start up-rough running, but only the 'info' section was blank all else worked. Hit the dash a few times, gauges came back, ran smoothly. So, is the cluster clip vital for electrical connections/running smoothly? or did I not push the green plugs back tightly enough? Thanks in advance !

Sounds like one of the connectors is loose.
